In 2009, the United Nations designated April 22 International Mother Earth Day. Earth Day originally renowned at Spring Equinox, around March 20th, is an annual celebration with events held worldwide to increase awareness and appreciation of the Earth’s natural environment.
The name and concept of Earth Day was pioneered by John McConnell in 1969 at a UNESCO Conference in San Francisco. McConnell later proposed March 21, 1970, the first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere, as the day designated to honoring the Earth. This day of nature’s Equinox was later sanctioned in a Proclamation signed by Secretary General U Thant at the United Nations. A month later, a separate Earth Day was founded by United States Senator, Gaylord Nelson, as an environmental teaching first held on April 22, 1970. Now Earth Day is coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network, and is celebrated in more than 175 countries every year.
Audiology Associates takes great pride in our continued efforts preserving and improving the environment. In honor of Earth Day, April 22, 2013, we are holding our Earth Day contest. Please save your used hearing aid batteries and bring them to our office in a sealed bag with your: name, phone number, address, and email address on it. They may be dropped off any time until April 19, 2013 at 5:00pm. We will be recycling all of the collected batteries on behalf of our patients, thus preventing more waste entering our environment. Our office will determine who saved the most batteries by weight for each office location. The winner will be notified by phone and receive a complimentary one-year supply of hearing aid batteries!
This contest is open to all of our patients, and we are collecting hearing aid batteries only; we are unable to accept any other form of batteries.
