How Communication Works

Active listening is a crucial component to hearing. At Audiology Associates, we are committed to helping you and your loved ones learn effective strategies to help better the communication in your life, and those around you.

In communication, there is a talker and a listener. But listening is not a linear process; it’s a cycle. The listener responds to the talker, and the talker adjusts him or herself to suit the listener, based on the status of the environment and the message itself. By working together, communication becomes an easy process that can overcome great obstacles in hearing and circumstance.

When the listener has a hearing loss, the condition of poor hearing often takes the blame for reduced connections. However, because hearing loss affects everyone, it is important that all persons take responsibility for effective communication and learn active listening, and talking, skills.
