As an added service to our patients and the community we have joined up with the Deaf and Disabled Telecommunications Program “DDTP” to inform, educate, and make available specialized telephones for deaf and disabled Californians. The application process is simple with a short portion for the applicant to fill out and a section for a hearing health care provider to complete. We can assist with the completion and submission of the application as well as provide the individual with the various telephone options that can be viewed in any of our offices. DDTP has also co-hosted educational events with Audiology Associates where eligible individuals can have their hearing screened, fill out their portion of the application for a specialty phone, practice with the sample phones, and actually leave with a phone for their personal use from the event. Please let us know if you would like to coordinate such an event.
From the CTAP page: Thanks to California Phones from the California Telephone Access Program, now it’s easier for everyone to stay connected. We offer free specialized phones that make it easier to hear, easier to dial, and easier to call. Over half a million Californians are already enjoying California Phones. So join the conversation. Apply for your free phone today.
The Deaf and Disabled Telecommunications Program (DDTP) is a public program mandated by the California State Legislature and administered by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). The DDTP has two components: the California Relay Service (CRS), which includes Speech to Speech, and the California Telephone Access Program (CTAP) which provides assistive telecommunications equipment. The mission of the program is to provide access to basic telephone service for Californians who have difficulty using the telephone.
Programs are funded by a nominal surcharge on all telephone bills in the state. This surcharge appears on bills as “CA Relay Service and Communications Devices Fund.”
